With Pride Month, Blizzard has revealed two new LGBTQ+ characters from Overwatch 2.
Two LGBTQ+ characters for Overwatch 2
Recently, Blizzard has confirmed that two more characters in the Overwatch universe are celebrating Pride Month as they identify as LGBTQ+. The game developers have thought of a very original way to confirm the sexual identity of these heroes; they have already created a touching story and made it coincide with these dates.
It may surprise many players that two heroes identify as LGBTQ+; however, many other players already suspected it, just missing Blizzard’s confirmation.
Although these celebrations begin today, June 1, 2023, the company decided to confirm the sexual identity of the characters a few days earlier.
Diversity in the Heroes of Overwatch 2
The universe created in Overwatch 2 has always bet on being diverse in terms of personalities and other characteristics. The game’s developers have tried to create a world where many players find a home. So Blizzard, for nothing in the world, would leave aside this aspect in the game.
As we discussed, many may not be surprised to learn that the two LGBTQ+ characters in Overwatch 2 are Pharah, a lesbian, and Baptiste, a bisexual.
Now that the sexual identity of these two heroes has been confirmed, they can proudly join the roster of characters such as Lifeweaver, Tracer, and Soldier: 76.
Pharah and Baptiste’s sexual identity
The developers of Overwatch 2 have revealed the sexual identity of Pharah and Baptiste in a touching story called “As You Are.”

However, the game’s developers have been dropping hints about these two characters for some time now.
First, many people are already familiar with “Pharmercy” (Pharah + Mercy), as Blizzard stated in the announcement. Thanks to that announcement, fans have long been rumoring that Pharah might be an LGBTQ+ character.
On the other hand, fans also had suspicions about Baptiste’s sexual orientation. Many fans claimed to have heard him flirting with Lifeweaver, the new supporting character introduced in Season 4.
Comments on the announcement of the sexual identity of two heroes
The game’s developers have commented that many people may wonder what is the reason for deciding to reveal the sexual identity of these two heroes. Then they comment that the entire Blizzard team loves the characters and their stories, so they have decided to explore in depth the identities and connections of the characters.
On the other hand, Blizzard has also announced that the Blizzard Gear Store will have a Pride-themed collection. In addition, they have announced that the profits generated will be donated to the “National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTE).”
