Deadlock’s Cheater Problem: What Players Need to Know

Deadlock’s Cheater Problem: What Players Need to Know

11. September 2024 by Valentin Pasetti

As Valve’s new game, Deadlock, combines elements of hero shooters and multiplayer online battle arenas (MOBA), players are already facing a rising tide of cheaters. Despite being in early development, the game has attracted a concerning number of cheats, sparking worries about how Valve will address this issue.

The Rise of Cheaters in Deadlock

In recent days, the Deadlock community has been abuzz with discussions about cheating. Players are increasingly concerned about Valve’s ability to effectively manage and curb these issues. Given Valve’s track record with CS and CS2, where spin botters and wallhackers remain prevalent, there’s anxiety about similar problems emerging in Deadlock.

Community Reactions

A recent post on Deadlock’s subreddit highlighting aimbot footage garnered over 600 comments. While some players have not directly encountered aimbots, many have noticed suspicious behavior, such as players consistently getting perfect timings, which suggests the use of wallhacks.

Reporting Cheaters in Deadlock

Currently, Deadlock lacks an in-game reporting feature, which complicates the process of addressing cheaters. However, players can still report cheating through the game’s official Discord server. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Join the Discord Server: Launch Deadlock and click the button to join the Discord server from the main menu. Use the invite link provided to access the server.
  2. Access the Reporting Channel: Once in the Deadlock Discord, navigate to the #Reports channel on the left side.
  3. Report the Cheat: Use the !cheats command to report a player. Include details such as the hero, matchID, type of cheat, and timestamps. You can also attach a video for faster processing of the ban request.

Types of Cheats in Deadlock

As Deadlock evolves, various types of cheats have emerged:

  • Wallhack: Allows players to see through walls, providing an unfair advantage by revealing enemy positions and allowing them to shoot through obstacles.
  • Aimbot: Automatically targets and shoots at opponents with high accuracy. Variants of aimbot may also include automatic spinning to make the player harder to hit.

With Deadlock’s unique hero-based gameplay, it is likely that more specialized cheats will be developed over time.

Future of Deadlock and Cheating Concerns

Given Valve’s previous handling of cheating issues, it’s understandable that players are concerned about Deadlock’s future. However, the game is still in early development and lacks Valve’s Anti-Cheat (VAC) system.

Looking Ahead

While it’s reasonable to be cautious, it’s essential to wait and see how Valve responds to the cheating problem in Deadlock. The game’s current status means it’s too early to judge its long-term future based on these early issues.
