CS2 Beta Test Update: Patches, Hotfixes, Anubis & Ancient

CS2 Beta Test Update: Patches, Hotfixes, Anubis & Ancient

3. August 2023 by Andrew Williams

After the usual hints on Twitter, Valve has released a new update for the Counter-Strike 2 Limited Test, swapping Overpass and Vertigo for Ancient and Anubis. Even though most of us still can’t play the CS2 beta, Valve is hard at work fixing all the bugs and glitches that are discovered in the beta. The patch schedule seems to be very clocked so that even the smallest bugs can be fixed quickly.

Inferno is now the only map in the current active map pool that has not yet been released to the public in the new game.

Anubis and Ancient in CS2

Both maps seem to have received the special treatment, meaning they’ve been updated in terms of lighting and character, but they haven’t been “reworked” like Overpass or “updated” like Nuke. Still, these small changes alone make them look much nicer than before, and the visibility on Ancient has also improved thanks to some lighting updates.

Anubis has been released in Competitive, Casual and Deathmatch modes, while Ancient is only playable in Deathmatch and Casual. Valve wants to fix all bugs before the game is released to the masses and asks players to send their reports via email.

Changes since the last Update

Gameplay

  • Wingman was deactivated

Maps

  • Anubis added to the game modes Deathmatch, Casual and Competitive
  • Ancient was added to the game modes Deathmatch and Casual
  • Overpass and Vertigo were removed

Other

  • Chickens have been taught to swim
  • Weapons splash when dropped into water
  • adjusted sounds during grenade/water interaction

Animation

  • Improved head animation when ducking while running
  • Improved foot animation when quickly switching between standing still and moving

We will probably also get to see Inferno in another update before the game is fully released. Unfortunately, it is not yet known when this will happen. Valve will surely give us some hints and clues when the time comes. Since the first CS2 major is supposed to take place early next year, we will hopefully see the release of CS2 this year.
