BLAST Rivals Monterrey Relocated to Copenhagen: What Happened?

31. March 2025 by Francisco Villafana

The Counter-Strike community in the Americas is facing disappointment as BLAST has officially announced that the much-anticipated BLAST Rivals Monterrey event will no longer take place in Mexico. Instead, the tournament is being relocated to BLAST’s studios in Copenhagen, Denmark. The event, originally scheduled for April 30 to May 4, 2025, will now be hosted in a new location due to what BLAST described as “unforeseen logistical challenges.”

Why Did BLAST Relocate the Tournament?

In its official statement, BLAST cited unexpected logistical difficulties as the primary reason for moving BLAST Rivals Monterrey to Copenhagen. However, the exact details of these challenges remain undisclosed. This news is particularly disappointing for Mexican Counter-Strike fans, who have been waiting for a Tier 1 CS event to return to their country since 2017.

Tournament Format

  • Four teams from the Top 4 of Valve’s CS Ranking.
  • Four teams from Closed Qualifiers, representing:
    • Europe
    • North America
    • South America
    • Asia

The tournament’s prize pool was set at $350,000, with the winning team receiving $125,000 and 2 FFP Tokens—a valuable reward in BLAST’s competitive ecosystem.

What’s Next for BLAST Events in Latin America?

While BLAST Rivals Monterrey is no longer happening, this does not mean BLAST is abandoning Latin America. Fans are hopeful that future events could still take place in Mexico or other Latin American countries. However, no official confirmation has been provided by BLAST regarding new opportunities for Counter-Strike tournaments in the region.
