Format of Capcom Cup 25

This year’s tournament features a World Cup-style Group Stage, where only the top two players from each group will progress to the knockout phase. This format means we’ll see some fan favorites miss out, with defending champion UMA not qualifying this year.

Street Fighter League Finale

The Street Fighter League (SFL) will conclude the event. The top teams—FlyQuest (NA), Ninjas in Pyjamas (EU), and Goon 8 Squad (Japan)—will compete in a round-robin format. The two teams with the most points will face off in the grand finals.

Top Players to Watch

  1. Punk (USA)
Punk is a dominant force in the FGC, with multiple titles from Evo, Dreamhack Atlanta, and Frosty Faustings XVI under his belt. Having already won the US East seeding tournament and secured the Street Fighter League Championship with FlyQuest, Punk is the heavy favorite to claim this year’s Capcom Cup.

  2. MenaRD (Dominican Republic)
The only player to win two Capcom Cup titles, MenaRD has the chance to become the first to claim three. Known for his innovative use of lesser-picked characters, Mena could very well make a strong push for another victory, especially after winning Evo Japan.

  3. Tokido (Japan)
One of the legends of the FGC, Tokido has yet to win a Capcom Cup despite coming close in 2017. His Akuma remains a terrifying weapon, and he will undoubtedly be a contender in this year’s event.

  4. Itabashi Zangief (Japan)
Itabashi, known for his calculated, methodical play with Zangief, has come close to victory before. In 2018, he finished second, and he’ll be looking to finally secure the top spot this year.

  5. Noah The Prodigy (USA)
An exciting young talent, Noah has earned domestic wins at Frosty Faustings and Blink Respawn. While his international results are still growing, he has the potential to make a breakthrough at Capcom Cup.

  6. Blaz (Chile)
At just 16 years old, Blaz is the youngest player in the tournament but has already shown impressive skill. He’s looking to make a name for himself as part of the growing South American fighting game community.

  7. KnuckleDu (USA)
KnuckleDu, the first American to win Capcom Cup, is always a contender. Known for his superb defensive play, he remains a top player with his Guile.
