CS2: Valve Launches Update with Changes to Popular Maps

23. July 2024 by Valentin Pasetti

On July 22, Counter-Strike 2 released a new update featuring numerous modifications to several of its most popular maps, as well as general gameplay improvements.

Map Modifications

Dust II

  • Adjustment to CT Spawn Boxes: One of the most iconic maps in Counter-Strike, Dust II, received a specific modification. The stack of boxes outside the CT spawn, heading towards the A bomb site, was adjusted. This modification can significantly impact player strategies by altering cover and sightlines in one of the map’s most trafficked areas.

Nuke

  • Clipping Adjustments: On the Nuke map, clipping adjustments were made. These changes typically address issues where players or their objects can pass through solid surfaces, enhancing collision accuracy and overall gameplay.

Assembly

  • Community Workshop Update: The Assembly map was updated to the latest version available in the Community Workshop. Specific patch notes for this map can be found in the Workshop, often including gameplay and aesthetic improvements based on community feedback.

Memento

  • Community Workshop Update: Similarly, Memento was updated to its latest version in the Community Workshop. Community maps frequently receive updates to refine gameplay and fix bugs identified by players.

General Improvements

In addition to map modifications, the update includes several general improvements affecting gameplay and game infrastructure:

New Official Servers in London

  • Enhanced Player Experience: Official servers were added in London, which should improve the gaming experience for players in that region by reducing latency and providing a more stable connection.

Reduction of Fire Effect Penetration Through Thin Walls

  • Strategic Impact: This improvement focuses on the accuracy of fire effects in the game, reducing their ability to penetrate thin walls. This change will influence how players use fire in their strategies, particularly in scenarios where thin walls are common.

Copenhagen Major 2024 Trophies Added to Player Profiles

  • Customization and Recognition: Players can now display their Copenhagen Major 2024 trophies on their profiles, adding an element of personalization and achievement recognition within the game.

Minimap Configuration Adjustment for Workshop Tools

  • Facilitating Content Creation: The configuration “cs_minimap_create_output_size” was enabled for use in Counter-Strike 2’s Workshop tools. This adjustment will facilitate content creators in customizing and optimizing minimaps in their creations.
