The playoffs of the PGL Wallachia Season 2 have officially kicked off, marking the final stage of the first Dota 2 tournament of the 2024/25 season. Eight teams have advanced to this phase, aiming to become the champions of a tournament that, while not featuring many Tier 1 teams, has provided exciting moments and thrilling matches.
The Contenders
One of the most surprising aspects of this tournament is the diversity of regions represented in the playoffs. Unlike in recent tournaments, this stage isn’t dominated by the traditional America vs. Europe showdown, and instead, we see teams from various regions, including a fan-favorite from MENA.
The only North American team in the competition, Nouns, managed to reach the playoffs despite some difficulties. This marks one of their best results since forming this roster.
Europe is represented by Tundra and Avulus, both of which are strong contenders for the title. Despite Tundra playing with substitutes, they remain a formidable force, especially with 33 leading the team.
NAVI is the sole representative from the CIS region, and although they might not be seen as strong favorites, their roster, bolstered by BZM and Puppey, is not to be underestimated.
Initially, South America had two teams in the tournament, but after some last-minute roster changes, they now have four representatives, including Beastcoast and Infinity. These teams, once considered underdogs, have surprised everyone by improving their gameplay throughout the Swiss Stage, securing spots in the playoffs.
Falcons, technically listed as a European team due to their roster, are seen as a MENA representative and are the tournament’s top favorite. With no roster changes and many top-tier teams having withdrawn from the tournament, Falcons remain the only Tier 1 team in strong form.
The Playoffs Begin
The playoff brackets were set, and the matches began with Tundra and Heroic, both of which secured comfortable victories in their opening matches. However, the last two matches of the day brought the most excitement.
Beastcoast gave a tough fight against the heavily favored Falcons. Although Falcons ultimately won the series, Beastcoast came incredibly close to causing an upset, nearly sending the Top 4 team from The International 2024 to the lower bracket.
The final match of the day featured a thrilling showdown between Nouns and Avulus. Despite being the underdogs, Nouns staged a remarkable 2-1 comeback victory over the European squad, defying expectations and advancing in the playoffs.
