The Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) 2024, renowned as the second most important international tournament in the League of Legends competitive calendar, is gearing up for its ninth edition.
From Chengdu, China, Riot Games has spared no effort in hosting MSI 2024, where the world’s best teams will vie for the year’s first international title.
In this update, we’ll cover the latest MSI 2024 Results, as well as the dates and schedules for the upcoming matches of a tournament that promises to captivate audiences worldwide.
Fnatic Advances from MSI Play-In, Upholding Western Pride
After a setback against TOP Esports, Fnatic returned to MSI 2024 Play–In with a mission to progress on the final day. The orange squad took the stage following FlyQuest’s defeat against PSG Talon and secured a spot in the Main Event, salvaging Western pride.
Led by Yoon “Jun” Se-jun’s Ashe arrows and propelled by Óscar “Oscarinin” Muñoz’s Ornn, Fnatic triumphed 2-0 over GAM Esports. The debut sequence allowed the black & orange team to advance in a seemingly accessible Play–In, albeit at the cost of losing one Western representative to Southeast Asia.
MSI 2024 – Next Stop: Playoffs!
Following the conclusion of the MSI 2024 Play–In stage, the playoff draw took place. In a brief ceremony featuring balls and team names, the remaining MSI teams learned their next opponents. It’s worth noting that the four teams advancing from Play-In are now joined by the four top teams from the major regions in this playoff phase.
Respecting the “Main Event Team vs. Play-In Team” rule, the MSI 2024 playoffs draw resulted in the following matchups:
Europe will face Korea in Round 1 of the MSI playoffs. LEC champions G2 Esports will debut against the four-time world champions, T1. The samurais faced an unfavorable draw initially and will take on Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok and company in their international tournament debut.
Meanwhile, Fnatic will confront the other Korean powerhouse, reigning four-time LCK champions Gen.G. The draw didn’t favor Fnatic much, as the European team was among the lowest seeds along with PSG Talon, ultimately facing Gen.G or Bilibili Gaming, the two top favorites.
The MSI 2024 playoffs will feature best-of-five (Bo5) series, commencing on Tuesday, May 7. The schedule and matchups will be confirmed shortly, offering four consecutive days of initial series. Following this, on Saturday, May 11, and Sunday, May 12, two more Bo5 series will extend the tournament’s screen time.
Notably, the MSI 2024 playoffs feature a Lower Bracket, making it a double-elimination format. A victory propels you forward in the bracket as usual, while a loss sends you to the lower bracket instead of direct elimination. However, a second loss will mean being knocked out of the competition.
