Play-In Stage: Key Matches and Stories

In the Play-In Stage, 16 teams will compete for a spot in the Group Stage. Let’s take a closer look at some key matchups and the excitement surrounding them.

Group 1

This group is set to be one of the most exciting, with Liquid and Heroic as top contenders. The opening match between these two teams is a rematch from the recent BLAST Bounty tournament, where Heroic triumphed over Liquid.

Roland “ultimate” Tomkowiak, Liquid’s sniper, will have extra motivation to perform in front of his Polish fans. Heroic, on the other hand, aims to prove their recent victory was no fluke and continue their rise in the scene.

Complexity faces Eternal Fire in another crucial match. Complexity’s new roster hasn’t been particularly impressive, giving Eternal Fire a solid chance to advance. However, should they progress, they’ll likely face tough opponents like Liquid and Heroic.

Group 2

Astralis is the clear favorite to make it out of this group, despite recent inconsistencies. Led by cadiaN and dev1ce, the Danish squad has the firepower and experience to defeat MIBR, FlyQuest, and 3DMAX.

MIBR struggled in the BLAST Bounty, losing to FlyQuest in a surprising upset, while FlyQuest could find it difficult to progress further. Astralis will likely advance, but the battle for second place could be close.

Group 3

This group features several teams that have recently made roster changes. SAW looks to be the weakest link here after a rough roster overhaul, while PaiN, with their new player dav1deuS, has shown promise after qualifying for the BLAST Bounty Main Event.

GamerLegion is a well-balanced and strong team, with the additions of Fredrik “REZ” Sterner and Oldřich “PR” Nový giving them the tools to fight for the top spots. Meanwhile, Virtus.pro’s inconsistent lineup and leadership issues under Denis “electroNic” Sharipov make their performance difficult to predict.

Group 4

Imperial female enters as heavy underdogs, despite their strong showing against NAVI in BLAST Bounty. They face an uphill battle in their match against FURIA, who are likely to dominate this contest.

The most exciting match of this group pits Wildcard against BIG. Wildcard recently triumphed in the Frost and Fire Europe tournament, defeating 9 Pandas in the final, and showed promise against Astralis in the BLAST Bounty.

BIG, while solid, will need to step up to overcome Wildcard’s momentum. FURIA remains the favorite to lead this group, but Wildcard could be the surprise package.

Group Stage Preview

After the Play-In Stage, the top 8 teams will join the already-seeded top-ranked teams for the Group Stage.

Group A: G2, Falcons, Vitality, FaZe

This group features some of the most high-profile roster changes for 2025. G2, Falcons, Vitality, and FaZe all have new lineups that make this a must-watch group.

Falcons’ star-studded roster, featuring NiKo, Magisk, and the core of Heroic, is expected to shine in their first major event together. FaZe will debut their new roster with EliGE, while Vitality’s acquisition of ropz adds more intrigue to an already talented group.

Group B: Spirit, NAVI, MOUZ, The MongolZ

With Spirit and NAVI fielding stable rosters, they are the group favorites. However, MOUZ is in a tricky spot after the departure of siuhy, now playing with Adrian “xelex” Vincze as a stand-in. The MongolZ, while stable, are unlikely to be a serious threat against the heavyweights in this group.
