League of Legends Slashes Champion Prices in Half Starting Patch 25.5

League of Legends Slashes Champion Prices in Half Starting Patch 25.5

27. February 2025 by Ramiro Fernandez

Riot Games is making League of Legends more accessible than ever with a major economy update in Patch 25.5. Beginning March 5, the price of all champions will be permanently reduced by 50%, making it significantly easier for new and returning players to build their champion pool.

This long-awaited change comes after heavy community feedback regarding the difficulty of acquiring champions following the removal of Champion Capsules.

Riot Games Listens to Player Feedback

League of Legends players have been vocal about their dissatisfaction with recent changes to the in-game economy. The removal of Hextech Chests and Champion Capsules made it harder to accumulate champions efficiently, leading to increased frustration among new and veteran players alike.

While Riot Games attempted to mitigate the issue by increasing Blue Essence earnings, the slow rate of champion acquisition remained a concern. Now, Riot is directly addressing this by cutting champion prices in half.

How the Champion Price Reduction Works

Starting in Patch 25.5, all champions in League of Legends will have their store prices permanently reduced by 50%. This means players will be able to unlock champions much faster without the grind previously required. Here’s what you need to know about the upcoming changes:

  • All champions will cost 50% less Blue Essence (BE) and Riot Points (RP).
  • Players who purchased champions in Patch 25.4 can request a 50% BE refund through Riot Support.
  • Champion Shards will now provide less Blue Essence when disenchanted to reflect the price adjustment.
  • Riot recommends disenchanting Champion Shards before Patch 25.5 to maximize BE gains.

Additional Economy Updates Coming Soon

Alongside the champion price reduction, Riot Games is also implementing additional quality-of-life updates to ensure a better player experience:

  • The return of Hextech Chests in Patch 25.5, now integrated into the Honor system and Battle Pass.
  • Your Shop will be available again in Patch 25.6, allowing players to purchase discounted skins.
  • The Essence Emporium is confirmed for Patch 25.7, ensuring players can spend Blue Essence on exclusive items.
  • Clash tournaments will be held monthly instead of bi-monthly, allowing more frequent competitive play.
