Marvel Rivals has taken the gaming world by storm, establishing itself as a standout title in the hero shooter genre. Developed by NetEase, the game has rapidly gained popularity, with players eagerly anticipating new characters, skins, and updates.
New Heroes Coming to Marvel Rivals
In a recent interview with PC Gamer, Guangyun Chen, the game’s director, shared insights into the upcoming content roadmap for Marvel Rivals.
“We have invested a lot of resources into developing upcoming content, including new characters, new maps, new modes, and more (…) The content for Season 2 is ready and set to go. The designs for Seasons 3 and 4 have also been completed and are currently under intensive development! Overall, everything is progressing smoothly.”
What This Means for Players
- Season 2 is fully developed and set to launch soon.
- Seasons 3 and 4 are in advanced stages of development.
- Players can expect new characters, maps, and game modes in the coming updates.
Major Changes to Team-Up Abilities
One of the most unique features of Marvel Rivals is its Team-Up abilities, which activate when two characters with a shared history in Marvel Comics team up—such as Rocket Raccoon and Groot.
While these abilities have been a highlight of the game, some combinations have disrupted game balance with the addition of new heroes. Addressing this issue, Chen stated:
“Team-Up skills are dynamic. Starting from Season 2, we will introduce new Team-Up skills with the seasonal update and adjust some existing ones. Together with seasonal overall balance adjustments, this will create a new combat environment and experience for the season.”
Planned Adjustments for Team-Up Abilities
- Introduction of new Team-Up skills with each seasonal update.
- Rebalancing of existing Team-Up skills to maintain fair play.
- Adjustments based on performance metrics, including pick rate, win rate, damage output, and healing statistics.
Hero Balancing and Future Enhancements
Chen also elaborated on the team’s approach to balancing heroes:
“On one hand, we will consider interesting gameplay mechanics that can bring about new environmental changes from the perspective of the game environment lineup and the characters’ (…) On the other hand, we will also take into account the progression of narrative writing and the new themes we want to introduce. Overall, we hope to fulfill players’ fantasies about Marvel superheroes and consistently deliver new experiences.”
How Hero Balancing Works
- Developers analyze hero pick rates, win rates, and overall impact on matches.
- New abilities and balance changes align with seasonal themes and storytelling.
- The goal is to provide a fresh and exciting experience each season.
New Heroes on the Horizon?
Although no specific new hero names were revealed during the interview, it’s confirmed that two new heroes will be introduced every season. This means the initial roster of 33 heroes will rapidly expand, providing even greater variety for players.
With Season 2 of Marvel Rivals set to launch, players can expect a wave of new content, including hero additions, balance updates, and enhanced Team-Up abilities. As NetEase continues to develop Seasons 3 and 4, the future of Marvel Rivals looks brighter than ever.
