One of the most important Chinese franchises in the Overwatch League has been disbanded. Apparently, most of the team members have decided to leave the HUYA-owned Chinese team behind.
According to reports, some players have left for other teams, and the other players have become free agents.
The players of the Chengdu Hunters franchise have left the team
As sources report to The Esports Advocate, most of the Chengdu Hunters players have left to join the Hangzhou Spark squad or have gone to free agency.
It is important to remember that last March, just before the start of the new 2023 Overwatch League season, Zhou “Mmonk” Xiang and Huang “leave” Xin left the Chinese team.
Chengdu Hunters have not commented on the players’ departure
Currently, Chengdu Hunters have not published any information on its Twitter account. This account has been silent since January 23, when they published that Overwatch 2 had been closed in Mainland China after the contract between the technology corporation NetEase and Blizzard terminated.

On the other hand, we must remember that when the new 2023 OWL season calendar was published last April, the only team that did not appear on the list was Chengdu Hunters. The League’s representatives only commented that the organization at that time was making decisions for the roster’s future.
After a few months of complete silence on Twitter, Chengdu Hunters is not on the list of teams for the new season; the chief moderator of the Chinese team’s Discord server made an announcement that worried the fans. The moderator has commented that until further notice, the Chengdu Hunters team was dead. This comment was made after it was made public: the squads participating in the new season of the League.
On the other hand, according to information published by TEA, an artist-illustrator who was part of the creative team of Chengdu Hunters posted a farewell poster on Weibo in March. In this post, the artist states that the team will not make the post on its official Weibo account.
Currently, no official statement has been issued by the League or the organization. On the team’s Liquipedia page, the players and staff personnel are still under contract with the organization. So all fans must continue to wait to know what will be the future of one of the most popular teams in the Overwatch League. As will happen with each player who is part of the Chinese squad.
