16. October 2024 by Valentin Pasetti

Swiss esports organization Team BDS has announced an exciting new Rocket League tournament set to take place during the RLCS (Rocket League Championship Series) off-season.

The event, dubbed Take the Throne, promises to bring together some of the world’s top Rocket League teams in what aims to be one of the largest esports events ever hosted in Switzerland.

Tournament Details

Take the Throne is scheduled for November 23, 2024, in Geneva, at the historic Bâtiment des Forces Motrices. This venue, a former power plant built in 1883 and converted into a 1,000-seat auditorium in the 1980s, will serve as the stage for this highly anticipated tournament. The event will feature eight teams, six of which will be invited, while two more will qualify through open qualifiers.

Though Team BDS has not yet disclosed the prize pool, they have teased that it will be the “largest professional esports event in Swiss history.” This tournament represents a significant step in Team BDS’ restructuring as they focus more on organizing large-scale events, particularly during off-season periods for major competitions like RLCS.

Team BDS’ Legacy

Team BDS is no stranger to Rocket League success, having secured RLCS World Championships in both 2022 and 2024. They are also fresh off winning the Esports World Cup in 2024, solidifying their status as one of the most decorated teams in esports history. Now, with Take the Throne, the organization aims to push boundaries not just as competitors, but as tournament organizers.

Qualifying and Open Participation

While most of the competition will consist of invited teams, local and regional teams will have a chance to earn their spot through open qualifiers. This provides an exciting opportunity for up-and-coming teams to face off against the world’s elite in a high-profile setting.

The qualifying rounds are expected to attract significant attention from the European Rocket League scene, as well as from the broader esports community.

A New Chapter for Team BDS

Interestingly, Take the Throne shares its name with a series of tournaments Team BDS organized in 2020 during the beta phase of VALORANT. Those events featured former Counter-Strike players, stage hosts, and other prominent esports personalities.

With their history of successful event management, fans are eager to see how Team BDS will approach their latest venture in the Rocket League scene.
